If I may be so bold - I wasn't sure just what to expect (even after reading the article in the Chronicle) when joining this list. At first I thought it would be strictly technical information about writing--the how-to's and what-to's, etc. I had hoped it would give me some clue as to how to begin what I had tried to begin so many times before. Little did I think that it would be as relaxed and open as it is! Along with giving me the how-to's it has given me the courage to try again. After reading of the encouragement between those that are familiar with each other, I have learned that it not only takes the technical side of writing to create something worth reading, it also takes the knowledge that there are those out there wanting to read what you're wanting to write. (Did that make any sense?) So I am here to say, that I (for one) am very pleased with this list and what it gives each of us. Maybe because I am not a part of the "academic world" (faculty or student) I didn't have such high expectations as others that have joined. I can only say that someday I hope to be one of those that have given of themselves thru the written word, and have left a little piece of themselves for others to partake ... L
