Dire Warnings about Technology Use

The Payne Fund Studies in the 1920s warned of the dangers movie houses posed to children (they would get insufficient sunlight, among other things). Any number of warnings continue to be issued concerning television (my favorite is Marie Winn's book of some years ago, The Plug-In Drug; now video game addiction is a growing concern). Computers have also been cited as having the potential to cause numerous personal and social ills.

It seems that the more popular a medium, the louder the cries warning us of its ability to lead us down a primrose path toward all that is inhuman.

This puts the Internet in splendid company--people may --follow the past of least resistance and avoid human interaction.
