Barriers to Getting Educators Online, by

Why bother building an online community for educators?
Barriers to creating an online community of educators could be viewed as daunting. Certainly, some barriers, especially issues of access, time, and lack of training are more complex. Other barriers, such as those related to CMC (e.g., inexperience with the medium, the nature of CMC, and uncertainty of the value) may be easier to overcome. All barriers, however, should be seen as challenges that can educate those who wish to promote use of the medium. By designing strategies to facilitate online communication, it is NCIP's hope that, over time, the potential for telecommunications use by educators will be realized.
