John December Biographical Statement

John December
John December is an experienced Web developer, teacher, software creator, and freelance writer. His publications include articles and books about Internet topics as well as online information he has worked on since 1992. His book The World Wide Web Unleashed (1994) was the first comprehensive book about the World Wide Web published, and his book Presenting Java (1995) was the first book published about the Java programming language.

John has given presentations about the Web and Internet to a variety of audiences worldwide and has taught courses in computer science, expository writing, computer-mediated communication, and creative writing. He has developed software and graphical user interfaces to analyze aircraft requirements at Boeing. His poetry has been published in many literary magazines including Mid-American Review, Sou'wester, Passages North, and others. His photography has been published in The Shepherd Express, Milwaukee Magazine, American City Calendars, Isthmus [Madison, Wisconsin], 30:30 Landscape Architecture, and other publications as well as exhibited and sold at Light Ideas Gallery and Urban Milwaukee--the Store in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Michigan Technological University, an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Wichita State University, an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee, and an M.S. in Communication and Rhetoric from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is presently a sophomore (undeclared major) at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Born in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and after living in Kansas and New York State, he presently lives in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
