What is Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC)?

Although CMC has been studied for decades, practices of CMC have changed rapidly over the several past years, prompting scholars to re-examine what they mean by the term.

But how can we define exactly what CMC is? And what constitutes studying CMC? I've had my own definition of CMC for a while, really just a characterization. I'd like to develop and hear more extended discussions about this topic to set more solid foundations for future study.

The January 1997 issue of CMC Magazine will publish essays and views on the definition.

If you are interested in contributing, consult the CMC Magazine editorial policies and direct your rough draft or a highly detailed submission proposal before November 1, 1996 to John December.
