The Gendered Mystique, by Leslie Regan Shade

Just Who Is This Woman?

Allucquere Rosanne (Sandy) Stone is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Radio-TV-Film at the University of Texas at Austin, where she studies issues related to "interface, interaction, and desire," and also director of the Advanced Communication Technologies Laboratory (ACTLAB) . Stone's eclectic background has included research gigs on the neurological basis of vision and hearing for the National Institutes of Health, and for Bell Telephone Laboratories Special Systems Exploratory Development Group; and work as a computer programmer, technical writer and engineering manager in Silicon Valley, and with Jimi Hendrix in music recording. She defines her research interests as "the traffic in the boundaries between art and technology, which includes performance and performance theory; interface and interaction theory; cyberspace; virtual systems; desire, gender and sexuality, and transgender theory in relation to communication prosthetics. The complex interplay of science fiction and fictions of science."--
