Moral Decisions

The point is, and this is a weakness of Edwards' text too, that he does not fully address this issue of why we are so supportive of ethical decision-making by computers.

I believe the message we are supposed to get is that by computerizing processes that involve difficult moral decision-making, we hope to spare ourselves the difficulty of trying to make the right choice. As Edwards notes, one hope for the Star Wars system was that it would "make it impossible for the president to make a mistake." ^
