Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) is programming language used to define three-dimensional virtual worlds. Using freely available viewer software, you can view and explore VRML worlds such as buildings, fantasy landscapes, or chemical models.
Visual reality is three dimensional; before VRML, the Web was mostly two-dimensional representations of text, images, or video. VRML represents an important step in visualization. The combination of 3D visualization and interactive behavior is moving toward the vision of "cyberspace" as articulated by William Gibson in the novel Neuromancer.
Many companies use VRML for promotions and demonstrations. See AEReal.com.
It is an excellent standard for three-dimensional modeling on the Web.
